Photo Gallery | Artists' work on display at ADMH exhibit

For the entire month of May, artwork made by individuals served by the Alabama Department of Mental Health has been on display in the state capital. On Friday, an exhibit showcased the art pieces made by people from around the state who have mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities or substance abuse disorders.

A press release from the ADMH says the exhibit gives the artists the chance to express obstacles they have overcome in their lives, why art is important in their recovery and why they enjoy creating art.

More than 100 artists, their friends and family members were expected to attend the exhibit held at 1 p.m. in the Old Supreme Court Library in the state Capitol. Here's a look at a few of the piece of artwork and the artists' descriptions.
