"Realizing the Dream"

Anniston's young community members spent the morning honoring King's legacy at the "Realizing the Dream" program that included a unity breakfast and youth participation day.

Anniston's youth lift their voices

They read poetry, sang, danced and even shared trivia. This program began 10 years ago when some youth decided they wanted a special way to honor King.

Entering the digital age

An initiative with the King Center in Atlanta has made it possible for the public to view over 200,000 documents, many of which were written or typed by Dr. King, relating to the civil rights movement. Check them out at http://www.thekingcenter.org/archive

Misquote?

The quote chiseled on the side of the monument has drawn ire from some, saying that this shortened version of a longer King quote makes King sound "arrogant."

Not written in stone

There is a movement to re-chisel the original quote: "If you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter."

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority presented wreaths to honor Martin Luther and Coretta Scott King this morning at Kelly Ingram Park.
