Birmingham council approves Indy car race funds | News
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- After weeks of controversy the Birmingham City Council approved $300,000 to support the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park.
The request for funding was delayed three weeks ago after councilors questioned the idea of promising the same funding for the next four years.
The race went on as planned last weekend, drawing a record crowd.
Tuesday, without any discussion, the council approved funding for this year's race only. However, over the weekend, race organizers agreed to return to Barber for the next three years.
