BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- A statue to Birmingham native and Florida State University legendary football coach Bobby Bowden could be going up in downtown Birmingham.
Today, the BJCC Board gave tentative approval to a statue going up in front of the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, across the street from the SEC Headquarters.
Friends and supporters of Bowden are pushing for the statue and will raise funding for it.
"We want it be something to inspire all the young people who would walk by. You know Coach Bowden was educated in Birmingham at Birmingham elementary school, high school and college," Billy Marsh, BJCC board member and longtime friend of Bowden's said.
Bowden went to Woodlawn High School and his first coaching job was at then Howard College which later became Samford.
