Elderly woman fears bees will force her out of her home | News
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- Rosemary Harris notices more and more bees coming in to her house every day.
She's lived in the same house on Howard Avenue Southwest for 60 years but now she says she can't sleep because she fears being stung. And she knows that the problem is going to get worse each day.
"I don't know where the bees coming from, but they wasn't over here until I found it they were over there ever since last September or October."
Harris blames the house next door, where the bees are clearly going in and out.
"Alright that house over there, you see it's falling down, and it don't need to be in this neighborhood, that bothering me cause I'm here by myself and folks coming in there all night, drug folks or whatever they are, and that's uncomfortable for me," Harris said.
Harris called Mike Sykes with Honeybee Removal to come and see how extensive the problem is and he says it's pretty serious.
"The beekeeper who came out here says he can see the bees with his naked eye, but he can also see them with his thermal imager, he found them in the walls and in the ceiling," Harris said.
Sykes uses a vacuum to humanely remove the bees without killing any of them then gives them to local bee keepers.
But the cost of removal is nearly $600 and since she lives on only Social Security she can't afford the cost.
"If they get in here and bite me and they kill me, they say they kill me if they bite me. I just want the bees gone," Harris said.
Harris is hoping someone will help her so she can live in the home she loves.
