New Jeffco occupational tax plan goes before legislative delegation
JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC)- A proposal to help Jefferson County's general fund budget problems went before the legislative delegation today.
Birmingham Democrat Demetrius Newton proposed re-instating the 4.5% occupational tax. Representative Jack Williams, a Vestavia Hills Republican, says his plan that also re-instates the occupational tax will likely come up in a few weeks.
Commissioners say they need help from lawmakers to deal with the current fund crisis.
